between January and December, for treatment of thoracic or cardiovascular pathologies at the Monaco Cardio-Thoracic Centre. The effort was supported by funds raised by humanitarian activities.

The CCM has made its first implantations of prosthetic aortic valve via the femoral artery.
This technique opens up new therapeutic possibilities for patients previously ineligible for surgical repair because of their age, heart deterioration or associated diseases, with severe symptoms which can no longer be improved by simple medical treatment or conventional surgical resection of the aortic valve.

Scanner - SOMATOM Definition Flash.
A second Somatom Definition FLASH second dual source CT scanner, offering superb image quality, high detail and very low patient exposure, as a result of the fast image acquisition allowed by the use of two X-ray sources, two detectors and fast table movement simplifies acute care diagnosis for all types of patient at very low radiation dose. In May 2009, it replaced the Definition Dual Source scanner bought two years earlier.

9th NO FINISH LINE race
Once again, all records have been smashed!
The 2009 edition of the No Finish Line race attracted more than 4 400 participants who covered 115 289 km. The association Children and Future and the “Monaco Collectif Humanitaire » will use the funds raised to support several children’s operations and to provide a sterilization and an operating room in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

Continuous Medical Training
After studying the content and the functioning of the monthly sessions devoted to cardiovascular and thoracic pathology, as well as the programme of sessions over the last 10 years, the National Union for Training and Evaluation in the field of Cardio-vascular Medicine (L’Union Nationale de Formation et d’évaluation en Médecine Cardio-vasculaire - UFCV) has just given formal approval to the inclusion of these meetings under the auspices of the Continuous Medical Training scheme. From now on, practitioners participating in these training sessions will gain points of validation under the Continuous Medical Training scheme. Furthermore, on request to vbelvisi@ccm.mc, the « Cahier du CCM», the monthly liaison bulletin of the CCM, will be e-mailed to you . This bulletin publishes a summary of the topics dealt with in the preceding training session, a brief exposition of the papers presented, information concerning scientific activity, contributions from permanent members of the team and details of developments at the CCM.

Mark Pepys at CCM : Targeting C-reactive protein for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
Mark Pepys is a world-renowned British immunologist, who started to work on C-Reactive Protein (CRP) in 1974. He linked the prognosis significance of CRP values to coronary heart disease. His outstanding work has recently been highlighted by Nature’s cover and dedicated issue to the first specific inhibitor of CPR developed in his laboratories.

The SOMATON Definition device started to operate end of march 2007.

This angio-surgical room, first operating in 1990, has been completely renovated in february 2007, with complete change of table and radiological equipment.
